Living in Sheffield: Our journeys as migrant women is a book that features the stories of eight female migrants who have made Sheffield their home. From different countries and backgrounds, these women share their stories and the challenges they have overcome. Livia Barreira, the writer, is a Brazilian journalist and communicator who is passionate about culture and diversity. She is the person behind @livinginsheffield, an Instagram profile where she spreads the word about exciting events across Sheffield, promotes independent and small businesses, and shares about the tours and workshops she organizes.
This is a book about the importance of diversity, the positive impact of migration and an invitation to female empowerment. I wanted to represent all this on its full cover. With illustrations of very different and diverse women, the goal was to make everyone feel included. I chose a vibrant and fun colour palette, in relation to the positive and inspiring message. As a migrant living in Sheffield myself, I felt very connected to this project, which has also been made entirely by women.
