This personal project is an illustrated adaptation of Thumbelina's tale. In this picture book, Thumbelina is a courageous five years old as tall as a thumb, whose adventure starts when a spoiled frog asks his father to kidnap her as a prank. After getting lost in the forest, the small Thumbelina has to learn to be independent and survive in a giant's world.

For the main character design, I wanted Thumbelina to look relatable to young readers. She is adorable and small, but also brave and adventurous. Her clothes are cute, but also comfortable so she can play and run with them, and with a practical big pocket to store useful items. Her colour palette is warm and bright to contrast with the cool colours of the illustrations' backgrounds.
