Living in Sheffield: Our journeys as migrant women is a book that features the stories of eight female migrants who have made Sheffield their home. From different countries and backgrounds, these women share their stories and the challenges they have overcome. Livia Barreira, the writer, is a Brazilian journalist and communicator who is passionate about culture and diversity. She is the person behind @livinginsheffield, an Instagram profile where she spreads the word about exciting events across Sheffield, promotes independent and small businesses, and shares about the events she organizes.

This is a book about the importance of diversity, the positive impact of migration and an invitation to female empowerment. I wanted to represent all this on its full cover. With illustrations of very different and diverse women, the goal was to make everyone feel included. I chose a vibrant and fun colour palette, in relation to the positive and inspiring message. As a migrant living in Sheffield myself, I felt very connected to this project, which has also been made entirely by women.

Seeking Sanctuary in Higher Education is a project funded by the University of Sheffield, and builds on insights from the (Re)imagining the Higher Education Border research project. It was made in collaboration with experts by experience in relation to displacement, studying in HE as sanctuary students and active in campaign initiatives lobbying to improve access to and opportunities within university. The project produced a series of comic strips and animations that sought to communicate:
Why opportunities to study and work in higher education are so challenging to access, yet play a vital role in the lives of people seeking sanctuary.
How staff and students can take individual and collective action to ensure that universities are safe and welcoming place for people seeking sanctuary.

I'm Susana Viñolo, a Spanish illustrator and graphic designer living in Sheffield, UK.
When I was little, I loved to read, write and use my imagination. As I got older, I learnt that I tell stories better with pictures than with words alone. That is why I became an illustrator. I treasure many memories of my childhood and recall the feeling of being small in an adult world, which I use as inspiration. At present, I mainly work on educational materials for the international market, creating age-appropriate art and meeting diverse audience needs. My illustrations are used to support learning and make education more accessible. My approach to illustration is both creative and professionally grounded, with a focus on storytelling and emotion.I combine my full-time job as an illustrator with developing my personal picture book projects. My stories are tender and character-driven. They explore childhood wonder, empathy, and positive values. I aim for an illustration style that is modern, strong in colour theory and with playful textures. In my free time, you will find me reading, journaling, visiting a museum or collecting art postcards.
